DIY wall bed for small guest/craft room

I have this small guest room for occasional out of town guests, there was a double bed and 2 night tables that pretty much filled the whole room. I really wanted to use this room for my craft and sewing room, but I still needed to be able to use it when I had visitors from out of town.

After searching for a while, I realized that Murphy beds are quite expensive between $800.00 to $1000.00 or more.
So being the resourceful “handy woman” that I am, I thought I would build one, I already had the mattress so I just had to build a frame to be able to push it up against the wall.

To do this I would have to purchase a folding bed mechanism, but those things are expensive too $240.00 Canadian, not including the wood. [still a great idea mind you]

Did I mention I’m cheap? [ I mean resourceful] and I like a challenge so I searched some more, and found plans online to make a wall bed without any mechanism.

It has all the measurements for the wood you need and you can use any wood you want. So I grabbed Hubby before he had a chance to think about what exactly I was doing, and run away.

With my measurements and shopping list we headed to may favorite home improvement store. I always have them cut the wood for me and it is usually free. I think it was about $200.00 with everything I needed.

for step by step and plans visit www.loriwallbeds.com the plans are $18.00.
It was quite simple, I think it took me about 2 weekends to complete.

In the pictures you can see my closet is not very attractive right now but I am working on organizing the closet and using some interesting ideas to organize the craft area, that will be coming up in a future post.
